Around this core, we apply cut metallic polyester film at precisely controlled regular intervals. Unlike fully metallized threads that can be stiff and prone to breaking, our intermittent covering technique maintains flexibility while delivering a sparkling, eye-catching effect. The "round cover" ensures uniform thickness and smooth passage through needle eyes and tension discs, reducing friction and breakage during high-speed embroidery.
Key construction feature: The metallic film is cut into small segments before being wrapped, creating a discontinuous reflective surface. This results in a subtle glitter rather than a continuous mirror-like finish, which reduces glare and enhances the thread's natural textile appearance.
Conventional metallic threads often sacrifice tensile strength for appearance. JOHNSON has overcome this limitation through optimized wrapping density and base yarn selection. Our 150D/1 polyester-based variant achieves a breaking strength of ≥3.5 cN/dtex, while the rayon variant maintains ≥2.8 cN/dtex – both significantly higher than average market levels for metallic threads.

Our in-house dyeing and metallizing lines allow us to produce any RAL or Pantone-matched metallic effect. Options include copper, bronze, rose gold, royal blue, emerald green, and red. The metallic film can also be holographic or iridescent upon request.
The thread's round cross-section and low-friction metallic coating make it compatible with major brands like Tajima, Barudan, ZSK, and Happy. Recommended needle size: #75/11 to #90/14. Tension settings should be slightly looser than standard polyester thread. We have tested it at speeds up to 1,200 SPM with less than 0.5% breakage rate.
For manual stitching, the thread's softness (especially the rayon version) allows easy threading and knotting. The metallic segments catch light as the needle moves, creating a dazzling "sparkle trail" effect. Ideal for crewel work, goldwork, and cross-stitch.
